Tomorrow (March 19th) is the first day of spring. When I realized that, I was reminded of a quote that found me a long time ago. It reads:
“For a seed to achieve its greatest expression, it must come completely undone. The shell cracks, its insides come out and everything changes. To someone who doesn’t understand growth, it would look like complete destruction” Cynthia Occelli
I talked in class tonight about the relationship between opposites in a life moving toward growth. To create means to embrace destruction. The movement forward must include the end of what was.
Reaching for something new can only happen if one is able to let go of the comfort of the familiar. Even if we know the familiar is not serving us, it can be easier to stay than risk the vulnerability of change
Doing something new is absolutely the undoing of something old. One will shed the version of themselves that wasn’t sure they were capable or was unaware of the joy or challenge that new opportunity would bring.
I urge you in this brand new spring, this time of growth and mud and unpredictable weather, to allow the same in your life. If you have a desire for change in your life in any way, know it is likely to feel uncomfortable and not “neat”. There is a letting go of that “neatness” that is imperative to change. Its okay. Its true for all of us, no matter how well some hide it.
Break open, change it, shift it, let it pass. Like the seed must trust its need to crack open that safe shell, never to be repaired, trust that you have the capacity to hold what is to come. Reach toward the light, the warmth, the future version of yourself just waiting to bloom.
Happy Spring
